Search Engine PromotionsThis is where you want to invest all your time to get the maximum response from the Internet. Our objective is not to have the search engine list our site when we enter the company name or the website url . . . Our objective is to have our website listed with those five keywords that we designed the website with, to begin with. Once these five keywords are returning the listing we want, we may start working on the other search terms as well. We want, that when we enter the word "meta tag generator" (example) in google or yahoo or dmoz, our website should be listed anywhere on the first three pages. Our objective is to have it listed on the first page and the first position, but we need to steadily work on it and once it is there on the third page, trust me, you wont even realise when it reached the first one. SO to carry on with the SE promotions, we must write down the following terms on a text file or a word file, whichever is convenient- URL of website Title of the website Short Description of the website We keep this information stored so that we can simply copy and paste it while submitting our site to search engines without having to write it again and again. And also because we might want to refer to the information we had submitted to the search engines. Now we move forward to submitting your website to the search engines. Submitting a site to search engine does not mean that you have added your informtion to their database, it simply means that you have added your url to their crawl list. So next time when the spider (automated crawler also known as bot), crawls, it will visit your site and take the information from the meta tags and content and add it to its database. Usually it takes between two days to 14 days for your site to be added to the database. Go to all the search engines you know, google.com, yahoo.com, hotbots.com, dmoz.org, exite.com, etc and find the link saying add url, or add site or suggest a site and submit your information. Some search engines do not ask for any additional info, url and desc. are enough, but you might have to give more to the others. After submitting your site to all the free submissions, you may want to submit your site to some paid submission sites as well. A lot of people dont do this, and if you have a website that does not offer any products or services, or is not an e-commerce website, it may not be suggested if your budget for internet marketing is low. For other company websites, paid submissions are worth it. Remember, most of the sites offering express submissions do not guarantee instant listings, they only offer express review, which means that if your site is not appropriate for listing, they will not list you and most of them do not refund your money. We suggest that you start with one search engine at a time. It is necessary for you to do the submissions in a relaxed manner, give it a week's time and make a list of all the search engines you have submitted your information to. It does take time and efforts but in the long run, you will need it. Once your site starts showing up in the search engines you can look back at the list to check, which search engine has shown your listing and which ones haven't. You might want to resubmit your site to the ones who haven't. Remember, do not submit your site to search engines more than once in fifteen days. Once your site is listed, you would need to resubmit your site only if you have some major changes done to your website that you want to be shown. Now your information has been submitted to the search engines and you can start expecting some traffic coming from there. However, people who search for your terms rarely go beyond the first five pages, but some combinations of search terms might get you listed on the first few pages. You must keep checking your position on the search engines by searching the keywords you worked on, also try some combinations that you think users might search for, example Rase meta tag or meta tag download or meta tag US MA, These combinations show a great listings for your sites as they vary from content to content. A lot of people use combinations of words to search for specific sites, and use as many search terms as they can to get the minimum number of results, which would give them a better choice. We still remember one user coming to our site using the search term "how to e rase web". Probably he was looking for the term "how to erase web" and he landed to our site. This is the time when we had just submitted our site to search engines and were waiting for response and checking the performance. So these terms can also get a lot of traffic to your site, just keep trying new terms and combinations to see where you stand. At this level your site is listed and just like a website hosting, your site is available to the internet users. There are chances of people finding you but you shall not be very visible to people finding you. To make yourself visible, you have to advance to the next level which is Search Engine Optimizations.
